New On-Line Service For Animal Records

A technology company with links to the farming industry has launched a pioneering new on-line database for storing and handling animal records for beef and sheep societies in the United Kingdom.

The technology, provided by Graham Technology for the newlyformed BASCO Data Ltd (a consortium of the UK's leading sheep and cattle breed societies) is set to bring rapid improvements to the whole of the livestock sector, while installing greater confidence for consumers.

Project manager at Graham Technology, Willie Fisher, said: "With issues such as BSE, Footand-Mouth Disease and the Scrapie debate ongoing, it is no longer sufficient to deliver agricultural products on their own. An accurate set of data items must also be supplied, from traceability information to the antibiotics used, for example.
