CWD Tests Voluntary in NE Colorado

Deer and elk hunters in Northeast Colorado won't be required to have their animals tested for chronic wasting disease this year. Tests are voluntary, with each test costing $15, the Division of Wildlife said in a statement Friday.

"The Colorado Wildlife Commission lifted mandatory chronic wasting disease testing requirements for northeastern Colorado," the release quoted Kathi Green, statewide disease management coordinator.

The division notes researchers indicated last winter that voluntary testing should provide enough samples to evaluate the disease in deer and elk herds in northeastern Colorado.
