IFA Raises Fears Of Lamb Import Protest

Farmers in the Republic of Ireland have threatened action against meat plants importing lambs from Northern Ireland.

The damage being inflicted on lamb prices from the importation of large volumes of Northern Ireland imports into the factories was the most contentious issue to emerge at an Irish Farmers' Association sheep farmers' meeting in Graiguenamanagh, Co Kilkenny.

The meeting, which was chaired by IFA Kilkenny sheep chairman, William Hutchinson, and attended by up to 100 flockowners, heard calls for action and protests against the factories over the way they were using Northern lamb imports to undermine prices to their local suppliers.
