DNR Launches CWD 'Sparks' Management Plan

Using the spread of forest fires as an analogy, Department of Natural Resources biologists have likened two areas on the perimeter of the core Chronic Wasting Disease area as "sparks."

Three deer testing positive for CWD near Hollandale and one in Richland County have led to a more intense management strategy in those areas, according to DNR wildlife technician Mike Duerst. The DNR has defined each spark as going out two miles in all directions from the positive deer in that spark.

The Hollandale spark is centered on Sections 33 and 34 just south of Wisconsin 39. The DNR will notify landowners in each area of the parameters of the management efforts.
