The South Australian Farmers' Federation (SAFF) has welcomed the development of a spray-on pain killer for mulesed sheep that could potentially see an end to a boycott on Australian wool.

Animal Liberation will seek a review of the boycott, started by the US-based group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), in light of the new anaesthetic spray.

SAFF livestock chairman Ben Mumford says the product's development shows Australian farmers recognise the value of pain relief for their livestock.
