November 1 is an important day for anyone in the state of Wisconsin who keeps, houses or co-mingle livestock. According to the Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium, a new state law goes into effect next Tuesday that requires all livestock owners to register their properties. The idea was developed so that if an animal disease outbreak takes place in the future, officials will have a database to work with when trying to track down the source of the outbreak.
Livestock is considered to be any animal required to aquaculture, bovine, camelids, cervidea, equine, goats, captive game birds, poultry, ratites, sheep and swine.
WLIC says premises registration is the first of three major steps to implement the National Animal Identification System in Wisconsin.
