locating extern opportunities with small ruminants

Well over 100 veterinarians who are members of AASRP have volunteered to take senior veterinary students as externs. Nearly all offer some experiences with sheep, goats, llamas, deer, or related ruminants. If you are now a junior or senior looking ahead to off-campus experiences with small ruminants, AASRP has two ways to help you reach such veterinarians: previously published comprehensive lists of AASRP members willing to take externs; and current short lists tailored to your own geographical and species interests.

Your AASRP Liaison at your college may have a comprehensive list in hand, or you may find one in whatever location such information is placed at your school or college. Since that list was published, a few of those veterinarians have decided that they can no longer take externs. Please, therefore, approach all of them as if they should perhaps no longer be on it.

The way to get a current list is to write or call the AASRP office listed at the bottom of this page. Please be well prepared with the general location where you hope to get your off-campus experiences with small ruminants and with which species you wish to work. Then it should not be difficult to pull from the database names of AASRP veterinarians well-suited to your needs.

If you wish to discuss in more detail this question of locating AASRP members who will take externs, you may contact the chair of the Student Educational Opportunities Committee:
